History of The Ministry

Despite the results of the 2020 General Elections, the February 1 military coup toppled Myanmar’s democratically elected civilian government and detained them using armed forces, seizing the power. Since then, the military has been trying to reinstate a military dictatorship in Myanmar, destroying the fragile democracy and hopeful futures of the Myanmar people.

However, the elected union-level members of the parliament who won seats in the November general elections, yet were wrongly ousted by the military junta, successfully formed the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) on 5 February.

Myanmar people of all walks of life nationwide have taken to the streets to denounce the murderous junta and continue the peaceful protests until today. Civilian personnel also initiated a movement called the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) and it has proved to be an effective act to disrupt the administrative mechanism of the military.

To this day, the terrorist military has committed atrocities against innocent civilians including killings, arbitrary arrests, and numerous violent acts. This law enforcement entity which has taken oath and is ought to protect the people are protecting the small group of terrorist Junta instead, and are ignoring the needs and safety of people to carry out violence.

As a result, on March 31st, the CRPH announced the military junta led by Min Aung Hlaing as terrorists.

The Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), formed by elected leaders, the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC), ethnic organizations, ethnic armed organizations (EAOs), general strike committees, civilian organizations, and pro-democracy forces, had organized numerous meetings and collectively drafted and enacted the Declaration of Federal Democracy Charter. The Charter also serves as the roadmap for the Spring Revolution. In accordance with the Charter, the National Unity Government (NUG) inclusive of multi-ethnic groups was formed on April 16.

Under the NUG, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration aims to protect the People from the violence of the terrorist military and provide safety.
